The first
hurdle
has been cleared
The company was well prepared for D-Day on 25
May, making sure it
complied with the EU’s new General Data Protection Regulation. But this
is where the real work starts.
Christian Holm has come up with
a fitting metaphor: “On 25 May, we passed our driving test. Now we are learning
to drive safely.” Together with his team, the GDPR project manager ensured that
MAN Energy Solutions could face D-Day calmly. But there is still a lot of
detailed work to be done. “Data protection no longer runs in parallel with
processes, but is integrated in them. This will mean new process transparency,”
says Data Officer Horst Miguletz. The smaller EU sites will also come under
closer scrutiny now and receive individual advice. Their processes are often
very different from those at the large production sites. “Having colleagues on
board with us as we make this journey is every bit as important,” says
Christian Holm. “They will find plenty of information on the intranet, but
should also rely on their common sense when it comes to data protection.” Horst
Miguletz encourages all colleagues to ask if they are unsure: “Every site has
contacts for data protection, or get in touch with the central data protection
team.”
