We all want to go home safe and well at the end of the working day. That is the right of employees and MAN Energy Solutions does a great deal to ensure that the risk of accidents in the workplace is minimized.
The wearing of safety shoes on the shop floor in Augsburg has been made obligatory with effect from 1 April. The measure applies to everyone on our factory site, not just employees, but also guests, visiting groups and contractors. It also covers the marked paths traversing the shop floor, which could previously be used without safety shoes. Despite the change of footwear, anyone who does not work on the shop floor will still be required to use these paths in future. With this step, a measure is being implemented in Augsburg that is already routine in Oberhausen and Zurich.
Reducing the risk of injury
This measure is intended to improve the safety culture in our factories, and to prevent accidents and injuries caused by unsuitable footwear. If just one serious accident resulting in injury is prevented, it will have been worthwhile. A new campaign in Oberhausen goes a step further and turns up the spotlight on behavior-based health & safety. With ‘You see it, you own it’ as a slogan, it aims to boost people’s awareness of their own safety, but also the safety of colleagues. This means that all employees have a duty to take responsibility for themselves and others, because, as Head of Site Florian Schiller stresses: “The principal of safety first is non-negotiable – the management and senior staff always put the occupational safety of employees ahead of economic interests.”

Safety Moments in meetings
The Safety Moments concept also contributes to this policy and is intended to help root occupational safety even more firmly in people’s minds. It involves short questions on the subject of occupational safety being discussed by participants at the start of meetings. The meeting organizer puts the question forward for discussion and all the participants comment briefly on the topic. Alternatively, a near miss or brief prompt can be used to start the discussion. The Safety Moment should last no more than five minutes, but repeated engagement with the subject sharpens awareness and will hopefully help to banish unsafe behavior from working life. If a Safety Moment does not happen when it should, please do not hesitate to take the initiative yourself and share a brief prompt.
Joint endeavor
Efforts aimed at improving occupational safety are visible at most sites. All HSE colleagues are united by a joint endeavor to ensure that everyone who works for MAN Energy Solutions can go home safe and well at the end of the day. Support this endeavor and work safely!
