The Materials Test Laboratory in Hamburg is one of only a small number of facilities in Europe that can carry out tests close to absolute zero. With this capability, colleagues there are making an important contribution to hydrogen storage and transport.
Looking ahead, we anticipate more partnerships, innovative test
methods and enhanced commitment with a view to setting standards worldwide.
A hidden champion in the MAN family
The facility concentrates on materials testing with the emphasis on metals. Using liquid helium, our committed experts determine the upper load limit of materials for components used in hydrogen storage and transport,
for example. Only materials that pass this stringent test can be considered for such critical applications under extreme conditions.
Partnerships for the future
Our laboratory has been accredited by Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) since 1993 and boasts a diverse customer base that includes industrial giants like Thyssenkrupp, as well as numerous companies in the marine, aerospace and defense sectors. The laboratory has also been, and still is, involved in numerous MAN Cryo and H-TEC SYSTEMS projects. Authorities and insurance companies value cooperation with the laboratory. They all rely on our colleagues’ expertise in weld testing, root cause analysis and innovations, for example, when it comes to ensuring that the materials used are of the highest quality. “Looking ahead, we anticipate more partnerships, innovative test methods and enhanced commitment with a view to setting standards worldwide,” says Nikolai Gross, Laboratory Manager in Hamburg.
